General Session: Windows and Linux: A Tale of Two Kernels
Are we over the debate about who's better? Let's move on. In fact, Linux has become more like Windows as its core developers have borrowed some of Windows' high-performance optimizations. In this session, Mark Russinovich will highlight the evolution of both operating systems over the past few years, comparing their kernel architectures side-by-side. Then, we'll look at the question of high-end performance by reviewing their current standings in enterprise benchmarks and speculate on each platform's future direction.
Partner Session: Troubleshooting Windows with the Sysinternals Tools
Learn advanced techniques for applying the key freeware tools from
Sysinternals.com (Filemon, Regmon, and Process Explorer) to troubleshoot a range
of Windows system and application issues (DLL conflicts, permission problems,
registry problems, etc). These tools are used on a daily basis by Microsoft
Product Support and have been used effectively to solve a wide variety of
desktop and server issues, so being familiar with their operation and
application will assist you in dealing with different problems on Windows. Real
world examples will be given that show successful application of these tools to
solve real problems.
Windows 2000/XP Crash Dump Analysis
Learn to analyze Windows “crash dumps,” diagnose the cause, pinpoint a solution, and resolve the problem. Windows internals expert Mark Russinovich leads you step-by-step through the crash dump analysis process, introducing useful tools and handy tricks for isolating the cause of the crash.

Advanced Windows Troubleshooting with Sysinternals Process Explorer
Process Explorer is a freeware utility from Sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com) that serves as a Task Manager replacement. It shows detailed information about the processes running on a system, including their open handles, loaded DLLs, performance information, security context, and thread activity. Mark Russinovich, Process Explorer's author, demonstrates the tool's advanced features and uses real-world examples to help you troubleshoot the toughest Windows problems.

If you like Sysinternals, the book Inside Windows 2000, 3rd Edition, or
want to learn more about Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 internals, then you'll want to
attend the only scheduled seminars where both Dave Solomon and Mark Russinovich,
the authors of Inside Windows 2000, deliver our 3-day Windows Internals and
Advanced Troubleshooting seminar.

Mark has been designated a TechEd Europe Respected Speaker.

Troubleshooting Windows Boot and Startup
This session describes the steps Windows goes through during the boot, startup and login process. As part of that process, various fail safe options are described, including Driver Rollback, Last Known Good, Safe Mode, the Recovery Console, and Automated System Recovery that you can use to get past boot problems that might be caused by 3rd party drivers, applications or corrupt installations.
